: It is said, Murray Leinster's short story "Sidewise in Time" (1934) is considered to be the first notable exploration of alternate history. Anybody got some suggestions of good modern alternate history sci-fi?
One of the most famous is the 2011 novel by Stephen King, "11/22/63," in which he has fun tearing apart history. He rebuilds it in the worst possible way: his time traveler messes things up, resulting in nuclear war and a fracturing of time itself.
