The short answer is that he doesn't do it. James Patterson has become an book-producing industry. He comes up with an idea and "co-writers" write the books. Then he suggest rewrites. Eventually, he approves the result and the book goes out under his name. Then, of course with his name on it, the book goes straight to the NYT best seller list. Most don't realize that his group-produced books outsell Stephen King, John Grisham, and Dan Brown (combined). One out of every seventeen novels sold has the name James Patterson on the cover.
