You forgot to mention the Republicans not only kill any bill that helps the poor, they also push any bill that helps the rich and powerful. Don't forget it was Republican deregulation under the Bushes that let the rich and powerful get even more rich and powerful and almost destroy the US economy in the process.
: Right on, Jun.
: Let me give you a bit of historical trivia. A senator stood up on the US Senate floor and said the US was the only industrialized country in the world that didn't help provide medical care for its citizens. That was in 1916. The congress responded quickly and drew up a bill to create a national health care system. The Republicans, using political tactics and stalling, managed to kill it. They have been using the same tactics ever since: kill any bill that helps those in need. They barely failed to kill Medicare because the Democrats, under Johnson, were in control.
: Because of Republican stonewalling, it took the Democrats almost one hundred years to finally at least get a watered-down version of a medical health system care to go along with Medicare.

: : A while back, somebody on this forum, maybe it was one of those tea party persons, said Obama's national health care system was a form of socialism he was forcing down our throats (along with that worse socialism of all, Medicare). I say it's about time we helped those in need. After all, we are the richest country in the world.
