Turns out you are already right. The Republican National Committee has already come out with a statement. In this instance, they are not proud of America at all. They instantly released a mean spirited and amazingly petty, even childish, statement. Here is their OFFICIAL statement, their only comment on the award:

It is unfortunate that the president's star power has outshined tireless advocates who have made real achievements working towards peace and human rights. One thing is certain -- President Obama won't be receiving any awards from Americans for job creation, fiscal responsibility, or backing up rhetoric with concrete action."

: I agree, we should all feel proud, but I bet the Republican party won't want us to feel proud. They will put it down. Just watch and see. We now live in a you-versus-me world of politics: anything good that happens to Obama is bad and should be dissed, even if it is good for America.

: : Just saw on the news that Obama has been awarded the Novel peace prize. Every American should be proud.
