We need somebody to do the same thing again to find out what the government is up to these days. One thing for sure, they sure don't want us to know.

: Anybody read The Burglary by Betty Medsger. It's an amazing read, and it has relevance to the current aggressive attempt by the US government to suppress any leaks about what they are up to. The book is about a group of anti-war advocates back in 1971 that broke into an FBI office to find documents to prove the FBI was trying to subvert any and all anti-war efforts. But what they found was much more shocking. They did find documents proving the FBI WAS trying to undermine any and all anti-war efforts, but they also found much more: they discovered the FBI was using the full resources of the US government to infiltrate and undermine the civil rights movement. They had special programs designed to hurt the credibility of Martin Luther King. The FBI had another program to try to hurt King psychologically, even going so far as trying to get him to commit suicide. If the group of anti-war protesters hadn't broken into that FBI office, we, the voters, would never had found out what the FBI was up to. Does it sound a lot like what we are learning now about the NSA spying programs? What else are they keeping secret from us? The point is, how, in a democracy, are we to know whether or not to vote for our leaders if they manage to keep everything they are doing secret from us?
