: : : I read this forum but I've never commented. But I wondered why nobody is talking about what is going on in Libya? Do you think the US is right to be fighting a new war over there?

: : What is there to say? Who knows what is really going on over there? Are "the rebels" just normal folks wanting to get rid of their leaders, or is is a military coup? How do you tell?

: How do you tell? You can't. The US military learned their lesson in Vietnam, and that lesson was to make sure the people of the United States do not get ANY information about what is going on. The only information we are likely to get is military propaganda to make sure we think they are doing everything exactly right. If we ask what the plan is, we are being unpatriotic to even ask.

You know, you are right. I hadn't really thought about it until last night when I was watching CNN. They were bringing guests on the speculate about what they THOUGHT was going on over there and to speculate about who the rebels are. CNN was showing raw YouTube video of something that looked like a battle. They were left showing only amateur YouTube video even though they didn't know where it was taken or who took it. They are groping in the dark to try to report the news but these days the US government does not release any news (except propaganda). You are right, since Vietnam they have learned to conduct government in secret. We get nothing except propaganda. How did we let this happen? What happened to freedom of the press? Why is nobody complaining about it? Where is Wikileaks when we need them?
