Who? Hooray, a rank outsider wins for a change. Hope for us all.
She won the award for "The Gathering," her fourth novel. I heard it's one of those bleak Irish family stories. Well, why not?
She's an Irish author. Never heard of her? Me neither. OK, now we'll just have to check her out.
She must be good. She beat out Ian McEwan (On Chesil Beach), Lloyd Jones (Mister Pip), and Indra Sinha.
I bet she can really use the hundred thousand bucks.
