: I've read a lot about agents on the internet, a lot of it negative. I'm just getting ready to send out my novel, but now I'm scared. What if they rip me off? What if they steal my idea? What if they want to charge me? Help!!!

You should be so lucky. Assuming you are first-time novelist, you would be very lucky if an agent like you stuff enough to steal it. Such is the state of fiction publishing today.

Seriously though, I'd go ahead and send it to an agent, but make sure it's a reputable one. They won't charge you anything. They make their money finding good books and getting a commission when it sells. Good luck.
